Race 1 1/19/08 at the Big A
After a well deserved 6 week Christmas vacation as a present for his Grade 3 victory, it's back to work for the now 10
year old. Ramon Dominguez gets his 1st ride aboard EA and does a great job. Despite trailing by 14 1/2 lengths early and being
6th at the 3/4 pole, Dominguez gets EA through traffic and to the outside to finish second, only missing by a length. It is
the first time in 2 years EA finishes second, the last time being in the same race in 2006. If not for the shorter 1
1/16 mile distance, EA would have won. Still, a great start to the season and the 13th consecutive top 4 finish for the 10
year old.
Race 2 3/1/08 at the Big A
With 2 scratches, the field is trimmed to 4 horses. With blistering fractions, even the 2-5 favorite Daaher comes in
3rd. EA finishes 4th.
Race 3 4/5/08 at the Big A
EA is one of the first horses loaded into the gate. Combined with the fact it takes a while to load them all in with
a few acting up, EA is in the gate for what seems forever. By the 1/4 pole he is already 18 1/2 lengths out. He closes somewhat
at the end, but still finishes last.
Race 4 5/16/08 at Belmont
For only the 2nd time in his life, EA goes 1 1/2 miles. At the age of 10, this would be asking a lot for most horses.
But not EA. This is actually just what he needs. Breaking from the 1 spot does not help as he is once again in the
gate longer than anyone else. After failing to break with the other horses, EA is quickly 10 1/2 lengths behind. But
as the other horses start to tire, he picks up the pace, and finishes a game 2nd, losing by only 2 1/4 lengths to Delosvientos.
Race 5 6/6/08
at Belmont
For only the 3rd time in his life, EA goes 1 1/2 miles. At the age of 10, this would be asking a lot for most horses.
But not EA. This is actually just what he needs. Breaking from the 1 spot does not help as he is once again in the gate
longer than anyone else. After failing to break with the other horses, EA is quickly 10 1/2 lengths behind. But as the other
horses start to tire, he picks up the pace, and finishes a game 2nd, losing by only 2 lengths to Delosvientos. Wonder
what it will say for his next race?
Race 6 7/19/08 at Philadelphia
In his 1st start at Philadelphia, EA has a chance to get an automatic berth in the Breeders Cup Marathon by winning the
1 1/2 mile Greenwood Cup. He get aided by drawing the outside post in the 6 horse field. Almost as soon as entering, the gates
open, and EA has little time to rest in the gate. As a result, he is only 7 1/2 lengths back at the 1/4 pole, and 5 lengths
back at the 1/2 mile pole. Jockey Jose Espinoza does an excellent job of riding the rail, and by the time they hit the stretch
EA is already 3 lengths ahead of favorite Barcola. He ends up winning by 8 1/4 lengths, and sets a new Philadelphia track
record for the distance of 2:29.90. As the track announcer said, "Evening Attire. Amazing."
This would be the last race for Evening Attire. He went out a winner, which is what he has been
all his life.
