Race 1 8/11/01 at the Spa
Due to injury, EA misses most of the 3yo season. As a result, he misses all of the Triple
Crown races. He returns 10 months after his last race and comes in a decent 3rd.
Race 2 9/22/01 at Belmont
A step back as EA finishes 4th. He does have an excuse as he is bumped at the start. Still, Pat
Kelly will try something different in his next start.
Race 3 10/13/01 at Belmont
After failing 5 times to get his 2nd win, EA tries the turf for the 1st time. Although he finishes
6th, he is beaten by only 2 3/4. But this is his 6th consecutive loss. Something needs to happen. And it does
Race 4 10/31/01 at Aqueduct
(The Big A)
After 6 straight loses, EA appears at the Big A for the 1st time, and he would prove right away
why this would become his favorite track. EA is entered in the Grade 3 Discovery Handicap. This is a bit of a stretch, as
he only has 1 win, his maiden. The fans see this, and EA goes off at 65-1. But there is one big difference here. The race
is 1 1/8 miles, and the distance makes all the difference in the world. He passes Street Cry (the sire of 2007 Kentucky Derby
winner Street Sense, who would retire before Evening Attire does) deep in the stretch to win by 1, and pays $133 to win.
He would never go off higher than 25-1 again. And with good reason. EA had now become a legit race horse.
Race 5 12/1/01 at the Big A
Sticking with his favorite track, EA wins the G3 Queens County Handicap. With back to back G3
wins under his belt, its time to get ready for the 4yo season.
