Race 1 1/17/04 at the Big A
Breaking last and trailing by 11 lengths early, EA starts his now famous stretch drive, and loses
a photo by a nose to Seattle Fitz in the Grade 3 Aqueduct Handicap.
Race 2 2/14/04 at Laurel
His only trip here would be a trying one. Sent off as the 2-5 favorite, the shortest odds of
his long career, EA get roughed up by Rogue Agent, who finishes ahead of him in second. However, this is quickly reversed,
and EA is placed second through disqualification. If not for the interference, he may have won.
Race 3 4/3/04 at the Big A
By far and away, the best of EA vs. Funny Cide in a small but tough field of 5 that also
includes Host. Funny Cide and EA draw clear from the pack around the turn. While EA pours it on down the stretch, he comes
up just a 1/2 length short in the Grade 3 Excelsior. The next nearest horse, Host, is 8 lengths behind.
Race 4 8/22/04 at Keeneland
In his only start here, EA goes off as the 1-2 favorite, but comes in second to Midway Road.
It is the 6th consecutive race that EA comes in an agonizing 2nd.
Race 5 5/14/04 at Pimlico
EA shows up in the Grade 1 Pimlico Special, his only start here, and
finishes 4th. It ends his streak of 6 consecutive races coming in 2nd.
Race 6 6/19/04 at Suffolk Downs
Continuing his road trip, EA has his 3rd consecutive race outside of NY. He finishes 5th
in the Mass Cap. The favorite, Funny Cide, is second. EA heads back home to NY and another meeting with Funny Cide at
the Spa.
Race 7 8/22/04 at the Spa
Its finally back to NY for some home cooking. EA faces his rival Funny Cide in the Saratoga BC
Cap, in front of the largest crowd ever at the Spa. While most are there to see Funny Cide, EA takes the lead in the
stretch, and draws clear by 5 for the easy win. It is the 8th consecutive race in NY where EA comes
in the money.
Race 8 10/2/04 at Belmont
The third start for EA in the Jockey Club Gold Cup. A tough field of 7 features his rival Funny
Cide, who wins the race. EA is 4th, the first time in over 15 months that EA is out of the money in
NY. Considering NY has the toughest racing circuit in the world, that is quite an accomplishment.
Race 9 10/30/04 at the Big A
EA races for only the 2nd time on the turf in the Grade 3 Knickerbocker. While he runs a great
race, not many people will see it. The fog is at its worst, and after the 1/2, the filed disappears from view. When
they final make their way into the stretch, EA is in front, but is passed by Host who comes from almost last place, beaten
by only 1 1/2 lengths.
Race 10 11/20/04 at the Big
A
For the first time in 10 races, EA races at the same track 2 times in a row. After a good showing
3 weeks ago on the turf, EA goes off as the 5-2 favorite in the Grade 2 Red Smith. But this time around, EA does not care
for the grass, and the snails pace does not help, as he comes in 8th. It would be the worst finish of his career.
Race 11 12/04/04 at the Big
A
Its back to the dirt in the Queens County. EA is sent off as the favorite, but he walks out of
the gate, which will hinder him an many future races, and Classic Endeavor takes the lead almost from the start and never
looks back. While EA is 7th most of the race, he comes on with his patented late run, and only loses by 3/4 of a length.
